Mad Men & Trump.
One of my favorite TV series is Mad Men. For those of you that have not watched it, its a series about the advertising industry, set in the 1960's.
While the series focusing on Don Draper and his advertising company, the series does a great job of highlighting things that were common practice at that time, that are absolutely cringe worthy today.
Pregnant women smoking, slapping your friend's kids when they misbehave and most memorably, littering in public parks. In that episode, Don and his family go to a park for a picnic. At the end of it, they pick up the sheet they've been using and throw all rubbish off it, right onto the lawn and they just wake away. Clearly, this was a common practice at that time.
Today, the controversy about mask usage rages. Trump has signaled to his base that wearing masks are for the Democrats (read sissies). What a pity that this degree of support is not used to positive ends.
Would the base start littering if Trump said that keeping parks clean was a "sissy" thing to do? I dont find it too hard to believe.
While Trump's influence is incredible, is it only on the negative front? Rajinikanth is supposed to have very rabid fans - He seems to have no challenges in modeling poor behavior (smoking / drinking / eve teasing) but doesnt seem to be able to successfully convince his fans to behave in ways that are positive to society.
Maybe the attraction of these two is in that they make very little demand of you, in the term of sacrifices.
