Age Restrictions

There are age restrictions everywhere you look ... You have to be 18 to drive a car in India, you have to be 21 to drink in the US and so on ... What is the logic behind these restrictions ? I guess the assumption is that the older the person, the more mature they are likely to be ...

And extending that, the next assumption is that people who are more than 21 are mature enough to handle alcohol and not drive drunk ... But is that wholly true ? I know of 16 year olds who are far more mature and responsible than some of the 30 year olds that I know ..

So is it right to use age as the only criterion, or should we have a ground-up testing process that would give mature and responsible 14 year olds the opportunity to drive legally on Indian roads and preventing crazy 30 year olds from being able to binge drink and then drive on US roads.

Age restrictions in my opinion are just an easy way out for authorities ....

:-) Yeah, I have always been puzzled by that ...
I'm a little late reading this blog, especially some of the posts, but gotta say... everything here is so great and so true. As someone who's originally from the area, I get a chuckle out of many things here.
