Chennai Traffic Police
In the recent months, there have been quite a good number of road route modifications, especially in the heart of Central Chennai - Nungambakkam and Chetpet. Although some of these route changes have made the Operations Research graduate in me cringe, I will give high marks overall to the energy levels of the traffic cops.
I don't know whether its the new Accent cars, Yoga training for traffic cops or the new JCP, Traffic Police, Mr. Sunil Kumar, but traffic cops have stopped snoozing in the by-lanes and are taking the traffic-bull by the horns with just a tin-whistle in their hands.
Cops are at every junction and I see drivers actually being fined for violations, rather than the typical acceptance of a small bribe.
I like this change in energy levels. Now, if only they could start fixing the street lights .... Chennai, at the start of the previous DMK reign resembled New York (no kidding) with its brightness levels. Now, it looks like a Haitian ghetto because of the lack of lighting in most roads, with the exception of Anna Salai, Nungambakkam High Road and the other usual suspects ....
