A few observations

Several people have asked me how it is that I have not the slightest trace of an American accent, after spending 4 years there. I do not really have an answer to offer, but only an observation:

Amongst immigrants into the US, even after 30-40 years of living there, Russians still have their Russian accent, the French have their accent as do the Iranians and people of every nationality but Indian !

The Park Hotel in Chennai is organizing Utsav, an Indian food festival. I really think this is the height of irony ! I cannot imagine a Chinese food festival in China, or an American food festival in the US ! Or is it that the Park has finally realized that they are located in India ?!

Hey ... came across your blog. I dont think one should have an accent because he's shifted his work place in the US or any other place for that matter. I guess everyone have their right of accent. I believe English is also just another language for an alien. Doent mean that, every one should adopt an accent becuase you are living with them. however, one should speak so that one understands.
Football... thats interesting. Should hear more of it. by the way nice blog and good articles.

I think it's normal for people to pick up expressions that are peculiar to the place/country they live in, especially if they've been there awhile. (He/she is "taking the mickey" is one such phrase I find myself using sometimes!). But I do NOT believe that a few weeks or months in the UK or the UK will make anyone acquire a "foreign" accent... that is merely a way of showing off (or revealing an inner inadequacy, perhaps). How can the accent of 20-odd years (or whatever) be erased in a few months?

You are right buddy... I just come here for a few months and I see colleagues here who've been here for just 6 months talking american english as if they've been raised here.. The funny aspect is that they are still unable to understand what an american says completely... LOL...
