On the bus ...

I am sure that anybody thats been on an Indian bus must have experienced this - A cyclist swerves into the path of a bus, bus-driver slams on the brakes, bus comes screeching to a halt and all the passengers are flung forward with some measure of violence ...

I was traveling on the Washington DC Metro Trains today when I got this idea ... Why dont we just arrange the passenger seats such that they face the back of the bus ? Then, when the driver hits the brakes, you are pushed towards the front of the bus, but you have the seat to hold you in place ...

I believe this is what they do on the Rajdhani Express trains ... Why not on buses as well ?

you puke if you don't see where you are going ...and also you'd be more prepared to handle the (uprising) situation in case you are not asleep or lost in something. Generally people don't like travelling backwards.

Seat belts may be better idea

Its been proved that if u r moving in a direction opposite to the direction of motion, then you get motion sickness - try sitting in a train facing away from the direction of motion - or a jeep where you sit sideways - u'd feel sick more often than otherwise.

Well, as I said, the Rajdhani Express in India does have seats that way and people seemed to be ok. We might have to reserve some forward facing seats for the people who get sick ...
